Hackensack, NJ – Greater Bergen Community Action, Inc. (GBCA), Bergen County’s federally-designated anti-poverty Agency, which in recent years expanded to provide services in the cities of Paterson, Jersey City and Passaic, announced its free and comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) and Citizenship Program in partnership with Northeast New Jersey Legal Services. The program, funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Office of Citizenship, assists English learners eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship.
As a segment of GBCA’s “immigration to integration” focused work, the 10-week program prepares students for adaption into life as an American citizen, both for and beyond the naturalization process. Students of the program will learn U.S. civics while sharpening their ability to speak, read and write in English, which will not only prepare them for the Naturalization application and interview, but also ease the transition thereafter.
The program offers convenient evening classes from 6pm-8pm in the following locations:
Garfield, NJ
541 Midland Avenue, Garfield, NJ 07026
Mondays and Wednesdays
Hackensack, NJ
392 Main Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601
Tuesdays and Thursdays
GBCA Education and Training Center Director, Figen Tabakci, says, “Our goal is to prepare our students to not only complete the citizenship process, but to also become more fully engaged in their community and be informed citizens.”
