As the weather starts to cool down, families are tempted to heat up their homes. But the autumn season is a tricky time because the weather can seem inconsistent—sometimes it feels like a spring day, and other times it feels like the beginning of winter. A lot of families are reluctant to turn up their thermostats because they want to save energy, but most importantly they want to save money. But children and their families shouldn’t have to be uncomfortable on those colder days because of high energy bills.
GBCA’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Programs (LIHEAP) help income-qualified individuals and their families who are experiencing financial challenges pay their energy bills and remain comfortable in their homes this season. Energy costs can put stress on a household budget and for low-income individuals or individuals experiencing a financial emergency, they are forced to make difficult decisions about which bills to pay and which necessities to survive without. LIHEAP is available at no cost to all income-qualified individuals in the Bergen County area.
