Healthy Homes Initiative

The Healthy Homes Initiative program creates safer housing to promote the healthy growth and development of children and families in our community. The program educates residents about household health and safety risks and implements mitigation efforts to keep them and their families safe.

Who Is Eligible
  • Income-eligible residents of Bergen and Passaic Counties 

What to Expect:
  • Initial in-home Healthy Homes Assessment  

  • Comprehensive interventions for any critical health and safety hazards in the home 

  • Health and safety mitigation efforts carried out by licensed contractors 

  • Mitigation of the most common hazards including: 

  • Lead-based paint 

  • Radon 

  • Asbestos 

  • Mold 

  • Air filtration and ventilation 

  • Lack of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors 

  • Leaking or obsolete roofing systems  

  • Pest control

  • Trip and fall hazards
